This is from my Foundations of Architecture class. This was less of a project and more of several assignments, but they all served the same purpose; to get us familiar with the floorplancreator.com website. For majority of the 1st quarter, we were working on this website which is used to create blueprints for buildings and whatnot. The first time we used this site, we were told to make a rough sketch of our house (with this being my first time using this website, it was obviously quite rough) For the 2nd assignment, we had to create a "hotel" of sorts. There were a list of requirements that had to be met, such as having more than 8 rooms, a reception desk, a bathroom in each room, etc.. (since I was a more familiar with the site, this one obviously turned out a lot better) And for the last assignment, we had to create a floor plan for the Saber Zone ( this was the last thing we used floorplancreator.com for ) . I actually really enjoyed using this website.
Why did you choose to show this work sample on your Portfolio?
Like I mentioned, I really liked this portion of the class and wanted to share it with you. I really liked the format of these assignments and the site itself was really well made and easy to use which comes in handy when trying to learn how to create blueprints.
How does this work sample represent a 21st Century SKill?
This work sample was a great reflection on my information skills. Majority of this project was working on using the small amount information we were given and use it to create something we were proud of. It was especially useful when it came to the measurements portion of the blueprint. For majority of the measurements, we were given them. However, there were some instances where we had to go to the zone itself and measure out the aspects that weren't already on the blueprint we were given.
How does this work sample demonstrate your growth? Is there something you could've improved on?
As you can see in the photos above, i have severely improved over the course of time. I went from barely being able to use it, to creating several blueprints. And for improvements, I definitely could've worked on communicating. This was 100% independant and, at first, I was really confused and unsure how to use the site. I was really hesitant in asking for help that by the time the first assignment was due, I still had no clue on how to use it. Thankfully, Mr. Hazlet was really understanding and worked with me to make sure I had a grasp on what I had to do.
