This is the Privilege Walk essay. In Humanities class we took something known as the privilege walk. The Privilege Walk is a series of questions relating to your social status, well-being, and many other things. While going through those questions, we were tallying points individually and at the end, our total points were known as our Privilege Score. The exercise was completely anonymous so none of us knew each other's score in order to maintain a comfortable environment. We were assigned to create an essay and answer a series of questions related to the Privilege Walk, such as how it made you feel, if it changed your view on what privilege was, etc.
Why did you choose to show this work sample on your Portfolio?
Honestly, this project really made me rethink a lot of things. It's a really interesting project and I think I did a good job on it as well, so I'd like to show it.
How does this work sample represent a 21st Century Skill?
I feel this project was a good reflection on my Interpersonal and Communication Skills. This project made me really rethink my whole life and myself as a person. It was a confusing ride but helpful none-the-less. It was also the first time I talked to someone about something that deep before. Privilege isn't really a sensitive topic to me, it's just more of a topic I'd just rather not talk about for some reason. Yet I still managed to give a full fledged reflection on it. I gained a whole new perspective on what privilege actually is and now I have a better understanding.
How does this work sample demonstrate your growth? Is there something you could've improved on?
Like I mentioned before, this was one of the first times I've communicated with someone about a topic like this. I don't normally do that yet here we are. It proves I've been growing more open. And similar to almost all my other work samples, I need to work on getting my work in on time because this project was turned in a little late.
