This project is a rather long one consisting of many parts, in fact we're still not finished having started almost 2 months ago. What we were originally tasked to do was: choose an important figure in Hawaiian history (I chose Kamehameha because I'm smart), and then we'd go head to head in a series of events. The first event was a quiz show in which we were supposed to give a brief summary on our hero, and the class would then ask questions. If you knew the answers to them, good, if you didn't, not good. Once all the questions were asked, the class would then vote for who they thought did the best (I won). The second event was an argumentative essay in which we had to right 5 paragraphs on everything about your hero. Where they were born, how they died, their accomplishments, etc. (The essay is shown below on the right) The class would then vote between two peoples essays and choose who did better (I won again). Next, we had to draw a portrait of our hero. It could be done digitally or it could be hand drawn. The students would vote for which one looked best. (I won again). After that, we had to do sort of a journal entry in which we covered an important aspect of their life in the first person view. We read these out loud in class and people voted for who's they thought was better. ( Guess what.. I won again). Finally, the last event is a debate. Students will go head to head and they will have to argue about who's heros more important/impactful for Hawaiian history.

Why did you choose to show this work sample on your Portfolio?
This has been a really long and really fun process. It was one of the bigger projects we had this quarter and I enjoyed doing it so I wanted to show you. :)
How does this work sample represent a 21st Century Skill?
I think the main 21st century skills I used were my information skills (I used this throughout the entire project as I regularly had to take in info on my hero), self directional skills (this was a long project, and I was able to keep myself motivated throughout the whole thing), and my thinking and problem solving skills (since it was in a tournament type of format, I would be going against several of my classmates. I would often find myself trying to find ways to make my opponent look bad, while at the same time, making me look better)
How does this work sample demonstrate your growth? Is there something you could've improved on?
I thought of this as a great representation of how my WRITING skills have gotten better. Over the course of this project I've had to take down a bunch of information and I think I did a good job at that as well. However, I do think I rushed a bit. On the argumentative essay, though I did get a good score, I definitely could've done better if I had just taken my time.
