This is our Spanish Decor project. This was one of the more major projects of the 1st quarter and it was a really good introduction to Spanish II. What Profe was hoping to accomplish with this project was to ensure that we retained what we were taught last year in Spanish 1, and to also introduce us to the a Spanish speaking country. I was in a group of 5 (Tara, Allison, Sua, Siena, and me) and we chose to do Venezuela. Amongst ourselves we discussed what aspect we'd each be covering. Since we only needed 4 aspects, Tara and I worked on the same one which was current events. I think the real kicker for this project was the fact that we had to present in mostly Spanish (the appropriate amount for our level). Overall, I really liked this project and it was the perfect introduction for Spanish ll.
Why did you choose to show this work sample on your Portfolio?
This was a project that my group mates and I poured a lot of work into and managed to still enjoy, so I feel like it belonged to be put in here.
How does this work sample represent a 21st Century Skill?
If this work sample projected any of the 8 21st Century Skills the most, it'd definitely be Global Awareness. We did a very deep analysis of the country of Venezuela and really took the time to learn about and appreciate their culture and motivations. I learned about the Venezuelan government while my other groupmates did research on the Venezuelan culture, dishes, entertainment, and more.
How does this work sample demonstrate your growth? Is there something you could've improved on?
I feel like I really improved my Spanish. My pronunciation and understanding of the language has refined and been improved an astronomical amount. In Spanish 1, when I was told I had to speak even a little Spanish I would freak out because I wasn't confident in my ability to speak it. Now, however, I'm more confident than ever. As for what could've been improved, I'm actually fairly certain that there isn't much we could've improved. The poster and presentation went well and we really got the information down to a tee.
